Change-of-Title Compulsory Inspection
Safety First
According to the CSA B354.2-01 standard, any aerial work platform that reaches the age of 10 years (and every five years after that), or that has suffered structural damage, must be thoroughly inspected and certified by an engineer. Plafolift, an aerial work platform manufacturer, helped draft the standard that has worker safety at its core.
The primary purpose of these structural inspections is to ensure that aerial work platforms are still structurally sound and continue to be absolutely stable. It is also an opportunity to validate that the equipment still conforms to the standard that applied when it was built. In the end, it’s really all about worker safety.
The CSST is responsible for making sure these inspections are carried out and that the work is thoroughly documented. Should a serious accident occur and should you not be able to prove with credible documentation that mandated preventative maintenance and structural inspections were done, you and you employees could personally be held criminally liable (imprisonment and unlimited fines), according to the lesser known provisions of Bill C-45. For more information on Bill C-45, please contact your Plafolift Sales Representative or click here for a summary.
For Work Done by Experts - Certified by an Engineer
THE PLAFOLIFT CERTIFICATION + PROGRAM™ is under the scrutiny and direction of our specialized engineers as required by the standard. They have years of experience working on diesel, electric or propane motorized aerial work platforms. Because we are a manufacturer of aerial work platforms, our technicians have actually worked on our own production lines and they know and understand all the intricacies of lifting equipment. Specialized engineers and production line-trained technicians work as teams who have unrivalled expertise versus other service providers. Because we are a manufacturer of aerial work platforms, our technicians have actually worked on our own production lines and they are backed by our very own highly competent engineers. That makes for an unbeatable combination.
Structural Inspections Include:
An inspection of all original welds in conformity with the CSA W178.2 standard;
A non-destructive test of all critical components in conformity with standard CAN/CGSB-48.9712;
A rigorous mechanical and electrical inspection;
Stability tests in cases where modifications have been made or where structural damage is suspected;
An estimate of the cost of repairs (if required) to pass inspection;
Once the work is done, a final inspection is done by our engineer. He/she produces a detailed report that carries the engineer’s seal once he/she is satisfied that everything is at it should be. The documentation certifies that the equipment is per standard with regards to structural components that it meets stability requirements. The documentation provided satisfies the expectations of the CSST.
Inspections are state-of-the-art, as are all repairs and are done at our Warwick, QC, facilities. Technical expertise and experienced engineers – two major plusses of our program.
For All Makes of Motorized Aerial Work Platforms
Our technicians and engineers have the qualifications and experience required to inspect, work on and certify all other brands of motorized aerial work platforms, including JLG, Skyjack and Genie.
